4Matrix is the leading system for managing Within School Variation.
4Matrix helps schools raise standards, particularly at Key Stage 4.
Over 150 schools contributed last year to the development of 4Matrix data tools.
4Matrix can support any school's teacher-led research into school improvement. The data tools measure performance at many levels (e.g. mathematics, boys, WBRI, my class, set three, FSM). Teachers and managers can use the tools for their own research into standards, and add their own commentaries to those provided by the system.
The focus is on within-school variation rather than the differences between schools. Many schools have already used these tools in their National Challenge work, in their journey out of special measures, or to endorse and improve their position as a data-confident, self-evaluating school.
4Matrix tools are most commonly used for research into actual 16+ exam results in August so that teachers and managers can work on proposals for action before the new term starts. However, an increasing number of schools also use 4Matrix with Y10 and Y11 forecasts and current assessments.
On this web site we provide information about this project and about the data tools and techniques used.
