This project started its life as an idea in 2002 by two school effectiveness advisers - Mike and Bob - based on techniques evolved from working with school leaders over many years, and from Ofsted inspection work.

Chris is a gifted software engineer and the author of our new system - 4Matrix.net 2010, an SQL-powered, web-enabled version of 4Matrix.

We have developed these ideas further over an 8 year period through working with schools and LAs, notably Essex - where a majority of secondary schools have made use of this system.

4Matrix complements the approach to in-school variation developed by Professor David Reynolds, Professor of Education at the University of Plymouth, and explored through school projects by the National College. A draft publication on this subject is available from TDA/NC entitled 'In-School Variation - making effective practice standard practice'.

These professional tools have been specifically designed to enhance the role of senior staff with responsibility for standards and achievement.  If you are still using spreadsheets for this important work then you should look at this system.

In addition to the supply of 4Matrix.net 2010 we can provide additional help including remote diagnosis, Live Support, and a school visit to brief SLT members, or to run staff development sessions.

“ The intelligent use of data affects the work of all professionals involved in education. There can be no going back to the days when decisions were made on hunches and anecdotal information.”  - Christine Gilbert, Head of Ofsted, 2008
